Medical Whistleblower was founded by Dr. Janet Parker, a Veterinarian who reported Fraud, Abuse and Neglect in the Medical Community. The organization is dedicated to advocacy and the emotional support of all Medical Whistleblowers regardless of their professional background or licensing status.  Anyone with access to information related to medical fraud, abuse and neglect can be a Medical Whistleblower.  Medical Whistleblower supports those who have already made that choice and those still considering their future path.  There is no cost to request support from Medical Whistleblower.  Medical Whistleblower is not a counseling service and does not provide legal representation but is instead an organization that advocates for change.  Medical Whistleblower tries to provide meaningful information related to the Medical Whistleblower’s experience and personal networking contacts for further support.  Who are Medical Whistleblowers?Medical Whistleblowers come from all walks of life and many professional disciplines.   Anyone with access to information related to medical fraud, abuse and neglect can be a Medical Whistleblower.  Medical Whistleblowers are courageous patient advocates who expose the problems often hidden in our medical system.  Medical Whistleblower supports those who have already made that choice and those still considering their future path.  There is no cost to request support from Medical Whistleblower.  Medical Whistleblower is not a counseling service and does not provide legal representation.  We are an advocate for change and provide meaningful information related to the Medical Whistleblower’s experience and networking contacts for further support. Medical Whistleblowers can be Doctors, Pharmacists, Researchers, Police Officers, Federal Law Enforcement Agents, Nurses, Medical Technicians, Certified Public Accountants, Attorneys, Judges, Therapists, Prosecutors, Hospital CEO’s,  Academic Medical Instructors, Veterans, Emergency Medical Technicians, and even Patients and their families. Medical Whistleblowers are a great untapped resource of dedicated and highly trained professionals – many with medical degrees and even Advanced Medical Board Certifications, who are willing to communicate with and assist law enforcement efforts.  Medical Whistleblowers wish to actively participate in problem solving activities with Law Enforcement agencies to help to prevent the repeat victimization of patients and the misuse of tax payers’ dollars.  Medical Whistleblowers have capabilities that can enhance efforts to investigate and prevent crime. Medical Whistleblowers can identify patterns of crime as well as gaps and deficiencies in police services that police may not know of otherwise.  Medical Whistleblowers are competent and capable professionals who courageously risk their livelihoods when they come forward in the name of transparency and openness, to reveal criminal activity.  It is a sad fact that currently the medical system often repays their advocacy by retaliating against them and they often lose their cherished right to privacy and suffer severe personal loss.   Why should we support Medical Whistleblowers? The National Institute of Health (NIH) reports that there are 190,000 hospital deaths due to medical errors.  We should support and defend doctors, nurses, medical technicians, physical therapists, radiology technicians, nursing assistants, hospital CEO’s, medical researchers and others who stand up for patient safety, confidentiality and the patient’s right to make medical decisions.  But Medical Whistleblowers who report problems under the current system face retaliation within the hospital system. Traditionally doctors have reviewed other doctors with the goal of improving medical care.  This process is called Peer Review which is often under the political and economic control of large medical corporations, and is used to protect the hospitals from patient liability law suits.  Bad Faith Peer Review becomes a weapon to remove Whistleblowing doctors from their positions and to discredit them so that they do not testify in court against those who did medical fraud and the abuse and neglect of patients.  Under the current Health Care Quality Improvement Act (HCQIA) patients are not protected and medical quality has suffered.  The HCQIA is now used to protect huge medical corporations and to silence Medical Whistleblowers.  The law provides a shield of legal Immunity for bad faith malicious peer reviewers to retaliate against a doctor making a good faith report of abuse, neglect or fraud.  Unlike the court system there is no appeal, no due process.  Because of the threat to lose their medical licenses, fewer and fewer doctors are willing to risk their careers and livelihoods to protect patients.   How Can We Affect Change?Medical Whistleblowers have truth on their side.  They are courageous individuals committed to making a difference by helping prevent Medical Fraud, Abuse and Neglect. Medical Whistleblowers expose the abuse and neglect of our most vulnerable citizens and expose institutionalized patterns of wrongdoing.  One person against a big medical corporation is not a fair fight. Those who control the medical corporation define the workplace and all of its rules and regulations and can affect actions against the Medical Whistleblower at the level of the Medical Board. The medical corporation enjoys a presumption of legitimacy and legal authority and can through extraordinary resources affect the actions of politicians, the media, industry, and the larger community. The Medical Whistleblowers of today bear witness to our courts and our legislature to expose the Achilles heel of Fraud and organizational misconduct.  Truthful information used astutely to inform those who are empowered to make decisions, can be a very powerful political weapon in our society, capable of defeating money and entrenched corruption and greed. Like David who defeated Goliath, Medical Whistleblowers put the public interest above their own personal interests and even their own safety and security.  As they act with integrity as citizens of our society, they deserve our support, respect and honor. Make no mistake that to be a Medical Whistleblower requires great courage. This is not a pathway for the coward.  It requires great spiritual strength. It is a form of non-violent dissent which is physically non-aggressive but spiritually aggressive.  We hold those empowered to make legislative change and to enforce the law accountable for their actions and inaction.  As Medical Whistleblowers we strive to change the system in a meaningful way and to improve dialog and communication with those empowered to initiate and implement change.  Nothing is more powerful than the truth. How can I support the Advocacy Efforts of Medical Whistleblower?If you feel that you have time, resources or experience to offer Medical Whistleblower, we welcome your donations.  We are currently in need of volunteers who have had experience in Whistleblower Retaliation and can provide emotional support and advocacy for another whistleblower.  We attempt to pair an experienced Medical Whistleblower with someone who is still experiencing difficulties in their efforts to tell truth to power.  You do not have to have attained legal success in your own Whistleblowing efforts to be able to mentor another Whistleblower or to be involved as a volunteer.   The goal of Medical Whistleblower is to empower every Medical Whistleblower and give them opportunities for spiritual growth, renewal and personal fulfillment.
