Strike updates for Italy, Greece, US, Canada, UK

ITALY: GENERAL STRIKE AGAINST BANK BAILOUTS

Hundreds of thousands of workers put down their tools and took to the streets in a four hour stoppage stating "we won't pay for the crisis".

The strike by the General Confederation of Italian workers (CGIL) shut down postal services nationwide, transport services and airports in several cities and many automobile manufacturers, some of which strikers were joined by members of other unions.

Future strikes were being planned for Feb. 2009

GREECE: GENERAL STRIKE PLANNED FOR MARCH

Greek workers are set to go on general strike 19th March 2009 in protest of the government pension reforms and mishandling of the banking crisis.

Trade Unions: CFDT, CFTC, CFE-CGC, CGT, FOR, FSU, Solidaires, UNSA

Hundreds of thousands of workers have begun a nationwide strike in France. Eight labor unions have called the industrial action to protest against what they say are insufficient measures by the government to tackle the economic crisis. Unions say that with unemployment mounting, French workers should not have to foot the bill for a crisis that has led to expensive government bailouts for banks, carmakers and other sectors.

USA and CANADA: MASSIVE CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE PLANNED FOR MARCH

IVAW will march on Washington DC. Several other groups are planning to hold sit down protests on major airport runways across the country, freezing air travel for days. VoteStrike.com is asking members to protest locally in front of your reps personal residence or at local media outlets.

There is also a 'Stay Home' strike called for the March 13-19th: No work! No school! No shopping!

UK LIVERPOOL: PEACESTRIKE.ORG 'END WAR' 

AS JOHN LENNON SAID "ALL WE ARE SAYING IS GIVE PEACE A CHANCE",  I would like to start something in the city of Liverpool were I live, by going to my city centre on Saturday the 21st of February, armed with only a candle, and thousands of people singing the chourus of the John Lennon song "Give Peace A Chance".  The people of the world want world peace, not the governments of the world. Imagine every city on the globe uniting and joining the chorus!  Spread the word!  I will get thousands to go to the city of Liverpool here in the UK. Please let me know if you fancy doing this in your city. I hope you all join in on this special day. IMAGINE.
