Cheaper military
State of Our Job Seeking Union: Shrinking our military and employing a new, more needed army.
Thanks to automatic budget cuts and the President's goals, we're about to reform a leaner, more contemporary, and less costly military.
So, now is the time to build another army, which will produce healthy jobs and further reduce the costs caused by over reliance on our military.
It now costs $1,000,000 per soldier per year to mount our offensive and defensive forays from our variously estimated 507 - 4,999 military bases in about 150 countries. Our military ventures lose hearts and minds, while further burdening America's disappearing middle class and simultaneously enriching the military industrial estate.
Enacting People's Lobby's American World Service Corps (AWSC) Congressional Proposal fields a million young and old Americans whose t-shirted service would cost about $40,000 per volunteer, 4% of the cost of our star-trekked decked-out soldiers.
This new army would provide a million Americans per year to serve in such already existing organizations as the Peace Corps, AmeriCorps, Habitat, Doctors Without Borders, Head Start, Oxfam, Mercy Corps, etc. Almost any do-good local and international organization could have the benefit of additional AWSC volunteers working on needed projects in your community and our world.
The American World Service Corps would open and win hearts and minds. In doing so, it would reduce our reliance on destruction, drones, and amputations. Instead, it would build the army that would more effectively deal with crumbling economies, short-handed education, global climate change, and the myriad of problems falling upon a planet of seven billion where about half live on $2 .00 a day.
