So do you believe in God?
I ask this question every now and then to those who say they are Christian. When I ask them to prove there is a God, I am surprised they can't. The default answer is "you just have to have faith" or "it says so in the Bible". If someone is unfamiliar with the Bible or follows another Spiritual Faith, then the argument is very weak. Most people have never read the Bible. So whether you are a Bible follower, an evolutionist or follow another Spiritual Faith...you can prove there is God. A supreme being must have always existed to create the first person if you believe in the Bible or the first Amino Acid if you are an evolutionist or the the first whatever.
So is the Bible important if you have roots in science or if you are a traditionalist Christian? The answer is ABSOLUTELY. Whether you believe in the Bible, the Torah or writings from Joseph Smith or Buddha, most of these writings teach us many good lessons and give us good role models and a positive foundation. Of course, extremist in any religion can interpret writings to fit their narrow minded thinking. Welcome to some Southern Christians or Some Islam extremists. A Southern Christian once told me that the card game Dragonball-Z was Satanic and those in India were all Satanic people because they weren't Christians or those that had a same sex partner were Satanic.
Open your mind, your hearts to all people and cultures. If not, you are the extremist.
In the Jewish and Middle East religions, many recognize Jesus, but see him as a real nice guy or one of many prophets. Christians see him as the savior. Regardless of what you believe, you will find that most people cannot connect to everything in each writing in every religion. That is OK. I never embraced all the Popes and Saints when I was Catholic. Some were very bad leaders. Some passages in the Bible are very iffy. Some of these passages were written at a time when cultures were vastly suppressive. Every writing in every religion has its good and bad. Like TV...you have a choice of what you feed your mind. Be careful what you feed it.
