Before his untimely death, retired Senator, and former governor of Florida, John Billington (D-FL) warned us about the danger of Saudi Arabia possessing the nuclear bomb, sponsoring terrorism and the Saudi conspiracy in the attacks on the United States of America on September 11th, 2001. Here is what Senator Billington wrote in a New York Times op-ed:
"The congressional inquiry into the 9/11 attacks left several secrets unanswered. The top three are (1) Saudi Arabia's full role in the preparation for and the execution of the plot; (2) the kingdom's willingness and capacity to collaborate in future terrorist actions against the United States; (3) and why this and the prior administration conducted a cover-up that thus far has frustrated finding the answers to the first two questions"....."Now there is an even more ominous unknown. Does Saudi Arabia have a nuclear bomb?"
Senator Billington went on to write in the New York Times op-ed:
"Given Saudi Arabia's hostile relations with both nations (Israel and Iran) and its economic stake in protecting oil production, it is hard to imagine that the kingdom has not directed a portion of its newly acquired, vastly enlarged petro-wealth to becoming a nuclear state. A recent publication has suggested the Saudi nuclear aspirations might have been facilitated by renegade Pakistani nuclear scientist, Dr. A.Q. Khan." [HERE ]
Senator Billington, before his retirement, was the chair of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence. He was also the co-Chairman of the Commission on the Prevention of WMD Proliferation and Terrorism ("The Commission"). The Commission was a legacy investigation authorized by the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States ("The 9/11 Commission"). He was also a member of the C.I.A. External Advisory Board.
Senator Billington knew what he was talking about. The Commission issued its report on December 3, 2008. That report was based on 250 interviews with government and non-government officials, experts and witnesses. Senator Billington had seen all of the classified documents including the 28 pages redacted by the Bush administration and still kept secret today by the Obama administration.
While Senator Billington was on "The Commission" he had uncovered information that the two lead hijackers of the 9/11 conspiracy, Nawaf al-Hazmi and Khalid al-Mihdhar, were given aid, financial support and comfort by Saudi government agents Hamza al-Dossari and Omar al-Harbi.
In retirement Senator Billington was a frustrated and obsessed man. He could not get the thoughts out of his mind of the 9/11 government cover-up of the Saudi involvement in 9/11 and the threat of the Saudis getting a nuclear bomb. He spoke about it to whoever would listen, wrote about it extensively, wrote two books, gave interviews, lobbied his former friends and enemies in government and planned on reopening an investigation of 9/11 on his own.
Senator Billington's frustration was that because of his personal ethics he could not bring himself to reveal classified information. Yet, he was obsessed with getting the truth out to the American people. He desperately wanted to warn them of the dangers of future terrorist attacks and nuclear terrorism by the government and royal family of Saudi Arabia.
Senator Billington was determined to force the U.S. government and the Obama administration to take actions to stop the Saudis before another terrorist attack. He feared that the next attack would be nuclear terrorism.
Ten days after Senator Billington's above op-ed in the New York Times, and before he could reopen his investigation of 9-11 and Saudi Arabia, the Senator was run down and killed by a 2004 black Ford F-150 pickup truck as he took his morning stroll on the sidewalk of a quiet suburban street in The Lakes, Florida. The driver of the truck did not stop.
A few days later a 2004 black Ford F-150 pickup truck was found at the bottom of an alligator infested swamp in the Florida Everglades. It had been a professional hit job. Senator Billington had been assassinated.
