Pat Robertson is an extra-crispy kinda crazy, Truthseeker. That's no secret. But did you know, dearly beloved, that he is also a diet guru?
Not only has Robertson anointed carbohydrates as the holiest of holies in the food pyramid, but he decried the Muslim tradition of eating "halal" meat ... because this somehow supports terrorism.
Okay, you can almost understand the anti-Atkins angle. Manna from heaven is loaded with carbs, after all. Communion wafers, body of Christ, got'cha. Ditto the milk and honey, loaves and fishes, etc. Well, the honey and loaves anyway. But did you know that carbs fuel God's furnace?
The Guardian UK has the story:
"Considering going on a low-carb diet? You may have considered the health implications, but have you checked it with your local priest?
"If you take Pat Robertson at his word you may wish to, after the well-known American TV evangelist hit out at the fad for low-carb diets. He might not be the first person to criticise high protein diets, which have long been a subject of debate among dieticians, but he may be one of the first to try to criticise them for 'violating' God's principles.
"'You get swollen joints, you get gout, you get all kinds of problems, where you ache like crazy,' Robertson told The 700 Club program on CBN -- a network that he owns. 'Everybody thought Atkins was wonderful and they've got all these scientific tests, but...The carbs are the fire that burn everything completely. Sooner or later, it violates the principles that God set down.'"
South Beachers beware! Better drop that chicken drumstick and pick up a cupcake! If you don't change your evil ways, you'll get achy joints and a one-way ticket to hell ....
Nutcase.
Protein is of the devil -- understood. So the next illogical leap of madness in the Mind of Pat is that halal meat is particularly evil. More so than regular non-fire-of-God-fueling plain ol' hamburger. Pat explains is thusly:
"Robertson explained that halal dealt primarily with the method of animal slaughter prescribed by Islamic law, comparing it to similar customs in Judaism. 'Our research shows and our team has discovered that a portion of all profits from these Halal butcheries is going to the Muslim Brotherhood, so it's not a question of religion, it's a question of where does the money go...If you buy halal food you're sending money to the Brotherhood, and the Brotherhood in turn supports Hamas and, you know, Islamic jihadism -- well, not that, but Hamas, particularly, and other radical organizations -- that's the damage,' Robertson said."
Speaking of supporting sinister organizations, I've got a questions for you, pat -- if a person buys a blood diamond, where does that money go?
Food for thought.
