Duluth, Minnesota (OpEdNews) September 18, 2015: The 2016 election cycle is approaching. I'd like to see both political parties resolve to do their utmost to fund and otherwise support elementary and secondary education in the United States. Let me explain why.
ARISTOTLE ON POTENCY AND ACT
Aristotle discusses potency (potentiality) and act. Act actuates potency. Act thereby reduces potency to actuality.
In line with Aristotle's thought, perhaps we could say that cognitive potentiality is actuated.
But if cognitive potentiality is actuated, then what variables contribute to actuating it?
But if certain kinds of cognitive potentiality are NOT activated, why aren't they actuated?
Does the non-actuation of certain kinds of cognitive potentiality mean that the potentiality is not present to be actuated?
Or does it mean that certain variables that contribute to the actuation of certain cognitive potentiality are not present to make the necessary contribution?
STANDARDIZED IQ TESTS
Howard Gardner has suggested that perhaps we should think in terms of multiple kinds of intelligence.
Perhaps we should. But if we were to think of multiple kinds of intelligence, then we should think of potentiality for each kind of intelligence and the actuation of each kind.
