RECAP, SPOILERS AND MORE QUESTIONS
Any
Questions? aired May 9, 2013. Fitz tells Olivia that he will not run for
re-election. She confronts him, asking if he is not going to run again because
he believes what his father told him about himself (that he will never amount
to anything). Or is he doing something
"bold and true"? She tells him that he is quitting because he
believes he cannot win on his own, that he feels he does not have what it takes
to be a legitimate president. She continues and tells him that he would not
think any of that if it were not for Defiance.
What they did to him in Defiance. What she did to him in Defiance. As Olivia
begins to tell him what to do about all this, and about Melllie's accusations
of his cheating on her, Fitz tells Olivia to "stand down," that he
will fix the problem, not her. Talk about being dismissive of women!
It turns out, though, that
Olivia does help him change his mind. After the conversation he has with her,
Fitz announces to the press that his marriage is none of their business and
that he is going to run for a second term.
Cyrus and Olivia tell each
other that they believe in Fitz. Hah! They believed in him so much that they
rigged the election in Defiance because they feared he might not win. Cyrus
tells Fitz that Olivia is a "heck of a gal." Talk again about being
dismissive of women.
Does anyone remember who
Billy Chambers is? He has not been in a Scandal episode for a long time. We
learn that Billy Chambers is the mole, is Albatross, and that David Rosen has
taken the Cytron memory card from Olivia's safe to give it to Chambers. This is
the memory card from the touchscreen electronic voting machine in Defiance, Ohio.
The smoking gun of the rigged Defiance,
Ohio election.
David's motives at this
point are unclear to me and probably to himself too. If he is still a good guy,
how could he team up with murderer and nasty guy Billy Chambers? Or is he so
enraged at Olivia and her gladiators for stealing the memory card from him in
the first place (and they really did steal it from him -- that is, Abby did)
that he no longer has clear motives or even knows what his motives are?
Olivia is afraid that Fitz
will eventually come to hate her because of her role in rigging Defiance. She does not
seem to be concerned that she has been totally unethical by taking part in the
rigging. She appears willing to forgo any conscience problems -- for Fitz? For
the country? Or does she believe that Fitz's winning a second term without any
rigging somehow will clean up the past. Disappearing it, so to speak.
Cyrus can be trusted to
betray the people of the USA
again. He already rigged one election that we know of. The way he humiliated
James in this week's episode was hateful beyond belief. He is NG - no good.
Moreover, Cyrus continues
with his acceptance and okaying of the rigging and tells Olivia that if Fitz
does not run for a second term, "the Republican party will never recover
from it; and if it does, it won't be for years and it will be in the hands of
Sally Langston and her conservative overlords." Olivia responds honestly to
Cyrus, "We have already changed the future of this country once, Cyrus.
Isn't that enough?"
And Fitz? He hasn't confessed
to the country that the election was rigged and that he murdered Verna, the
Supreme Court Justice who was going to sing. Some good guy president!
WHO WILL STAND UP FOR US, FOR THE PEOPLE?
Is there anyone who is
going to out this crime of the century? Remember, way back when, Cyrus said to
Olivia that the White House has been stolen before and it will be stolen again.
Was he referring to Bush W. 2000? Are there any truth tellers in this whole hot
mess of characters?
