Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announcing order for Russian troops to leave Ukrainian city of Kherson

Regarding the war in Ukraine, the Russians have been evacuating its troops as well as civilians from the city of Kherson across the Dnieper River to the eastern side. The city sits on the western side of the River.

Apparently the MSM in the west-New York Times, Washington Post-depict the retreat as a Russian defeat by the Ukrainian military. This may be a serious miscalculation as three recent articles including a video and one interview, not connected to western media, indicate the Russian withdrawal was a calculated move to save the lives of Russian troops as well as civilians residing in Kherson. [1] [2] [3]

Significantly the thrust of all three articles indicate once the ground freezes sometime in December in Ukraine, the Russian Army now supplemented by the mobilization of 300,000 reservists ordered by Russian President Vladimir Putin in September will conduct a massive offensive on Kherson and beyond, a decisive blow against the Ukrainian Zelensky regime that could end the war.

Let's remember the initial thrust into Ukraine by the Russian military that began in late February was called a special military operation to defend the Donbass region of eastern Ukraine with two areas Donetsk and Lugansk that had refused to come under the authority of the Kiev regime since the coup in Kiev February 2014 had been attacked continuously since the coup by the Ukrainian military containing the Neo-Nazi Azov Battalion along with Right Sector elements.

Just days prior to the Russian SMO Donetsk and Lugansk declared their independence from Ukraine as sovereign republics. Within days Russia formally recognized them as such.

Then in September Donetsk, Lugansk, along with Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions held referendums and the people voted to join the Russian Federation, which the Russian parliament the DUMA voted to accept them as part of Russia.

Thus they became Russian territory to be defended as Russian territory.

When the Ukrainian's attacked the Kerch Bridge connecting Crimea with Russia proper as well as attacks on the Zaporizhzhia nuclear facility and the Kherson reservoir the Russian military retaliated across all Ukraine territory destroying most of the Ukrainian power grid throughout the country.

At this point in time though Russia has said it was willing to negotiate to end the war, essentially it sees no point in conducting diplomacy until the Zelensky regime is finally defeated most likely inthe winter of 2023. At least that's the assessment here.

One of the articles referenced above saw US troops entering the Ukraine conflict fighting directly against the Russian's in Ukraine. This writer rejects this idea. Why? Such an escalation, an actual hot war between two nuclear superpowers could unleash the unthinkable with dire consequences. Even if so called tactical nukes were released, the other side would be forced to retaliate with its own nuclear weapons. Then what?

Once started the idea a nuclear war could be contained is highly unlikely with each side compelled to escalate so that those killed didn't die in vain defending their country.

Somehow we must return to the cold war's MAD, mutually assured destruction whereby each side recognized they would be annihilated in a retaliatory nuclear strike if attacked by the other.

A nuclear war must never be fought.
