Restoring Honor, The Glenn Beck Way

"You have to be a dirt bag to be president."
-- Glenn Beck on his radio show this week explaining why he would never tell children that they can grow up to be president.

If that doesn't warm the cockles of your patriotic hearts, I can just see the wide-eyed school children being moralized to by the ever-moralistic Beck and being told that this is a country that even the poorest of the poor can grow up to be president...but only if you are a dirt bag. Which, I'm sure Glenn found somewhere in Martin Luther King's, "I have a dream" speech.

Speaking of MLK... Glenn Beck's "Restoring Honor"event at the foot of the Lincoln Memorial will coincide with this year's 47th anniversary of his speech at the foot of the Lincoln Memorial.

The event has been promoted to be a benefit for Special Operations Warrior Foundation. Yet, to restore honor in the way I'm sure our founders would have wanted it, contributions made to the SOWF will first be applied to the costs of the Restoring Honor Rally. He'll say he is not charging for his services, yet one wonders how Beck's connection with the event and the promotion it affords to him will be figured in the benefit calculations.

This morning he told his listeners of how he will be restoring honor in this (as his website declares) "non-political, non-partisan event," that he understated, "will be the turning point in American history."

On August 28, I don't know if Beck will be restoring honor with his eloquent, "you have to be a dirt bag to be president" commentary - which I believe was first mentioned in the 1788 ratification of the Constitution creating a separate dirtbag executive branch. But as he has hijacked King's day for his event, I have no doubt that Beck will also hijack a portion of King's words from that day 47 years before. I don't know exactly which ones they will be, but you can as sure as he will pause, then shed an appropriate tear, Beck will borrow something.

Perhaps he will tell his people, many of color - white, pale, tanned, etc - at the charity event, that he has a dream...a dream deeply rooted in the American dream...that one day that even he will be able to call a black president a racist; a guy who has a deep ceded hatred for white people or the white culture.

King would be honored.
