Finally a decent and intelligent solution is offered for the rampaging crime afflicting the poor blacks of New Orleans: Send in the troops! Occupy them for their own benefit!
.
This could get desperate if action is not taken soon, what with the Super Bowl comin' up and all, and the New Orleans police already overloaded with protecting the better neighborhoods. And no one would disagree that we cannot afford tourism and attendance at the jazz festivals to be jeopardized at the height of the season, the would be fun-loving visitors probably innocently unaware that this is essentially a black-on-black or a white-on-black issue and that they could not possibly be affected along Bourbon Street or inside the Hotel Ponchartrain. But in any event, we cannot allow trade and commerce to be discouraged by this sort of thing, even though it afflicts only black citizens, and keep in mind that the troops would in fact be spared patrolling and controlling the white neighborhoods and the tourist centers, which would remain appropriately protected by proper city police.
.
Come to think of it, there was a lot of popular support to secure such cities as Baghdad and Kabul. Why would we not make the same sacrifices for one (or more) of our own cities, beginning with New Orleans?
.
What's needed here is a little good ol' down-home patriotism. So let's get those troops into the black neighborhoods of New Orleans for their own good!
.
Hey, freedom's on the march! If we can gift security and democracy to such as Arabs 8,000 miles from our shoreline, then we should do the same for our own black citizens right on our coast!
.
Preparatory note: It may be prudent to precede the troops' entry into (certain parts of) New Orleans by handing out complimentary flags, "Support Our Troops" buttons and bumper stickers. This approach was eminently successful in generating the electorate's endorsement (even among some liberals) in protecting the native people and spreading democracy in Afghanistan and Iraq, and one can still note an occasional vehicle on Main St. sporting this enthusiasm.
