This
time it's Family Research Council cofounder and avowed anti-gay activist
George Alan Rekers who happens to be " uh" gay. Make
that actively, carelessly, desperately, enthusiastically gay. This is
the man who was paid over $60,000 to testify in a case designed to
prohibit gays from adopting children.This time the gay male associate, "Lucien" whose real name is being hidden as his family doesn't or didn't know he is gay, is being called a "travel assistant" hired after Rekers' saw nude photos of him on the Rentboy.com website, where apparently he appeared sufficiently able to handle Rekers bags. By the way, Rentboy isn't a travel assistant website, it's a place for men to hire men for sex, and there's nothing modest about it. I suggest a visit to the "must be 18 or older to enter" website for an idea of exactly what Mr. Rekers found impressive.
Rekers claimed he couldn't carry
his luggage himself, but was captured on film being the one of the
couple who was managing the suitcases, while his young "assistant' stood
idly by waiting for an elevator. In necessary seriousness, I firmly believe any person's sexuality is a private matter. I do not believe anyone should be judged on the gender of their sexual and love partner(s). I find it offensive to read news articles about a person's sexuality. I long for a return to a time when such information was indeed deemed private, and was never considered fodder for any news, not even the prurient rags. It wasn't all that long ago that we had no idea that President Kennedy, for example, had experiences outside the oval office. And other than from a historical perspective, we didn't need to know, as long as it did not interfere with the administration of his duties as President.
However, I believe it is important to 'out' hypocrites. I am, first of all, against crusaders who make stopping queers their life's work in any case, because I believe they are wrong. When they're complete hypocrites about it they must be called to task. Shakespeare had it right "The [gentleman] doth protest too much, methinks!" I believe such people have given up their right to privacy by their antagonistic behavior towards an innocent group of people. Their blatant hypocrisy needs to be exposed, and the issue of pro and anti gay rights needs to be discussed. This sort of thing is truly evidence that sexuality is not a choice, it is how one is born. I am willing to bet that Rekers was consumed with guilt and fear as he was unable to resist fulfiling his natural desires. What a tragedy that THAT is how it was expressed, that he felt forced to hide what was so compelling in his life that he risked, and now has lost, everything. Why does society, why do WE, do this to people?
I hope
that the American people and our lawmakers will soon awaken to the fact
that this endless parade of "Secretly Gay Crusaders against
Homosexuality" is the real abomination, and
inspire lawmakers to make sexuality irrelevant when considering things
like adoption, marriage, jobs, etc. There are numerous websites like Equality Forum
devoted to attaining equality for GLBT people - join them, read about
their goals and their lives. They're no different than you, except they
happen to love people of the same gender.The definition of EQUALITY does not have a subcategory of exceptions not gender, not sexuality, not belief, not color, not even intellectual capacity. Nor should we.
