U.S. Preditor Drone
As we know the Obama administration announced last week it was closing numerous U.S. embassies and consulates in the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia over "supposed" intelligence information about a possible plot by al Qaeda, (the details of which are kept secret for reasons of what else, national security and of course we're supposed to believe what they say just because they said it).
Then yesterday, the administration announced the extended closings until next weekend.
Also yesterday, two Republican lawmakers "praised" the president for taking these actions with Senator Lindsey Graham R- S.C. saying on CNN's "State of he Union", "I appreciate what the administration is doing with this," while on CBS's "Face the Nation", Rep. Michael McCaul, Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, replied, "The administration's call to close these embassies was actually a smart call". In other words "Thank you Barack for following our Republican playbook and by the way why not reinstate the color coded terror warnings that Bush's first head of Homeland Security Tom Ridge thought up and used to keep the public in fear (er "informed"). That is before the public caught on to the ruse and ignored the color alerts as so much hooey that the system was finally scrapped.
Apparently, Ayman al Zawahiri, the head of al Qaeda, posted videos on jihadist websites saying it was time to retaliate against U.S. drone strikes in Yemen and Afghanistan. So noticing these videos some computer nerd probably emailed the White House and told Barack's ever alert team of spies to check out some jihadi website featuring al- Zawahiri; that is if they had time to stop their surveillance of Americans electronic communications.
But what is most interesting (though not unexpected)about this latest "terror alert" is none of the lawmakers interviewed had anything to say about U.S. policy using drone strikes in Yemen, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Somalia even though al-Zawahiri pointed to those strikes as the basis for retaliation.
Yet anyone paying half attention realizes U.S. drone strikes are creating new jihadists wanting to take revenge against the U.S.,(and they don't need Zawahiri's video to inspire them to take retaliation). That's because these drone strikes kill wives, children, brothers and fathers. Most of these people are simple villagers having no previous connection to radical, jihadist elements but now want to do anything to avenge the deaths of their loved ones.
