Russian President Vladimir Putin signing treaty recognizing Donetsk and Lugansk as independent sovereign states.
Early yesterday Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a treaty with the two leaders of the Ukrainian breakaway republics of Donetsk and Lugansk in the Donbass recognizing them as independent sovereign states.
Putin ordered Russian peacekeepers into the Donbass to establish diplomatic relations. He also ordered the Russian military there as well.
This is certainly a bold move on Putin's part and a carefully calculated one at that.
This is no Russian invasion of Ukraine which even the western press openly recognizes is no such thing.
There was no Russian tanks and planes with divisions of troops invading Ukraine. No it's an orderly process of moving Russian troops into the Donbass that was established as part of the treaty agreement Putin signed with the republics leaders.
Some might see Putin's move as aggressive. Not from this writer. I believe it will deescalate any military misadventures on the part of the Ukraine military against the Russian military now in the Donbass.
The view here is the Russian military won't take aggressive action, but only take measures in defense of the two republics.
Yes the UN Security Council met late last night with US Ambassador Linda Thomas Greenfield condemning Putin's move. Same for the presidents of France and Germany. In fact German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has ordered the Nord Stream II gas pipeline certification process halted immediately in response to Putin's move-which will only hurt German consumers. Also British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has ordered sanctions against three Russian individuals with close ties to Putin.
