Russian President Putin announcing "A special military operation in Ukraine calling it a "peacekeeping operation" to "de-militarize and de-Nazify Ukraine.
Early this morning Russian President Vladimir Putin announced Russia launched "A special military operation in Ukraine calling it a "peacekeeping operation" in the Donbass. The goal of the operation is to "demilitarize and de-Nazify" Ukraine.
According to RT here is a synopsis of its reports:
Putin indicted the military operation was necessary to stop Ukrainian attacks in Donetsk and Lugansk regions-which he recognized as independent sovereign states earlier in the week. On Wednesday evening the leaders of the two recognized republics asked Putin to take military action in their defense.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported Ukraine's military infrastructure was targeted with "Russia taking out Ukraine's air defenses and air force with precision attacks" all over Ukraine.
Ukrainian border guards did not resist advancing Russian troops.
Two Russian civilian ships were hit by Ukrainian missiles in the Sea of Azov launched from Mariupol in eastern Ukraine with one civilian injury and a fire that was doused.
Russia closed its air space in southern Russia east of Ukraine.
Ukraine cut all its diplomatic ties with Russia and closed its civilian air space.
