Last week was the usual week of craziness:
Anybody Who Refuses Christianity Must Be Put To Death
Crisis Actors May Have Staged Mass Shooting In Oregon
Planned Parenthood A Coverup For Satanic Rituals Using Child Sacrifice
But the most disturbing craziness came from Tennessee Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey:
In the wake of a gunman targeting Christians at Umpqua Community College in Oregon, taking the lives of nine people before being killed by police, Tennessee Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey is encouraging Christians in America to arm themselves, according to The Tennessean.
The lawmaker posted a message Friday on Facebook that said "whether the perpetrators are motivated by aggressive secularism, jihadist extremism or racial supremacy, their targets remain the same: Christians and defenders of the West."*
It was a
mandate of sorts, and one which the Christian Right has taken seriously for a
long time.
Pulpit Gun Pimps
In a country where every hamlet boasts three churches, it's difficult to think
about Christian persecution seriously. And while the gunman at Umpqua CC had
asked people to identify themselves by religion and administered his form of
"justice" accordingly, Christian "persecution" in America
is not exactly a picture of coliseums and lions. The paranoia generated by
people like Janet
Porter (who says that
Christians are now being treated like the Jews in Nazi Germany) has created at
false atmosphere of fear that now takes over the Right Wing airwaves.
Some preachers are capitalizing on that fear, going so far as to openly promote
gun use everywhere.
