A new poll that's received a lot of coverage because it found that 52% of Mississippi and 45% of Alabama Republicans also has some very interesting findings about Rush Limbaugh.
Limbaugh's brand appears to be in free fall after his attack on contraception supporter Sandra Fluke.
Public Policy Polling's (PPP) poll found that even in two very conservative states, Limbaugh's positive/negative ratings among Republicans are at 53/33 in Alabama and 51/30 in Mississippi. Compare that to a survey of Republicans taken a few years ago, when he was at 80/12. PPP's poll report observes, " it's safe to say he's fallen a long way in these states."
This massive drop in Limbaugh's approval ratings has led to equally massive drop-outs among advertisers, not just for Limbaugh, but also for other right wing shock jocks, as
thinkprogress.org reports.
ThinkProgress has obtained an internal memo from Premiere Radio Networks listing 96 national companies that have "specifically asked" their advertisments not be played during the Rush Limbaugh Show. Premiere is the distributor of Limbaugh's program. The advertisers have also requested to be excluded from other right-wing hosts including Michael Savage, Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity. According to the memo, the listed companies' advertisements should be excluded from these programs because they have been "deemed to be offensive."

Sandra Fluke, the woman Limbaugh attacked, spoke out, in an op-ed on CNN, saying,
"By now, many have heard the stories I wanted to share thanks to the congressional leaders and members of the media who have supported me and millions of women in speaking out.Because we spoke so loudly, opponents of reproductive health access demonized and smeared me and others on the public airwaves. These smears are obvious attempts to distract from meaningful policy discussions and to silence women's voices regarding their own health care.
These attempts to silence women and the men who support them have clearly failed. I know this because I have received so many messages of support from across the country -- women and men speaking out because they agree that contraception needs to be treated as a basic health care service."
and further, Fluke said,
"Attacking me and women who use contraception by calling us prostitutes and worse cannot silence us. I am proud to stand with the millions of women and men who recognize that our government should legislate according to the reality of our lives -- not for ideology."
