It just isn't fair say gun rights enthusiasts. Funerals for the latest victims of a mass shooting have not even been held and already the public is talking new gun laws.
Why weren't there more guards at the school? Why weren't the elementary teachers armed? Why didn't people close to the alleged shooter report changes in behavior? Why do the news media inflate these shootings--only causing "copycats," gun lovers are now saying.
The problem isn't firearms which are easier to get than a job or health insurance. No, the problem is a lack of God in school said radio personalities Mike Huckabee and Mark Levin on the day of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings. There are not enough guns, echoed the Queen of Mean Ann Coulter. We need more!
When a gunman is found to be a legal gun owner who sailed through background checks, the gun lobby says: hey there will always be unbalanced people. The list of legal gun owners who were mass murderers includes Seung-Hui Cho, the Virginia Tech killer, Stephen Phillip Kazmierczak, the Northern Illinois University killer, Sulejman Talovic, the Salt Lake City's Trolley Square mall killer, Vincent J. Dortch, the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard killer, Jiverly Voong, the Binghamton, NY killer, Richard Poplawski, the Pittsburgh police killer, Bruce Pardo, the Santa killer, Latina Williams, the Louisiana Technical College killer, Jennifer Sanmarco, the Goleta postal facility killer, Terry Ratzmann, the Milwaukee church service killer, Chai Vang the Wisconsin hunter killer and Bart Ross, who killed a Chicago Federal judge's husband and mother.
But if a gunman is found to have an illegal weapon, the gun lobby says...hey, it's another bad guy who shouldn't have had a weapon. The lobby actually pretends its gun show loophole , straw buyer friendly laws (that let people buy multiple weapons) and ballistics obstructionism aren't the reason for armed criminals!
In both cases, gun rights enthusiasts use the result of the EZ laws they have bullied through--mass shooters--as proof of why citizens need to be armed. They play both sides of the street--and get away with it. Already gun enthusiasts are lamenting there weren't conceal and carriers at Sandy Hook. (And claiming gun opponents staged the event.)
