Planting our way out of this recession

PLANTING

Our way out of this recession

This recession is going to do us in---if something is not done about it. If we allow the economy to continue as is; to allow it to stumble, stagnate and molder it will only get worse. The problem we face is similar in many ways to what a farmer faces when deciding to plant.

A farmer knows that; no matter how tired he might be today, no matter what the banker might say tomorrow, no matter what the weather might be in the summer, no matter what the price of crops might be in the fall, and no matter how bad things are---he has to plant.

He knows that negative thinking solves nothing. I can't plant because I might lose my money , is a guaranteed way to fail. Thinking that I can't do this and I can't do that is an attitude of defeat. He knows that doing nothing is a prescription for failure.

He has to put money into fuel, fertilizer and seed. If he does not have cash on hand then he has to borrow to get a crop in the ground. He has to be confident, he has to have faith in the future, he has to take chances and bear up under the burden of risks.

Also, he knows that if he plants---even though things look terrible---he will, most likely, earn something for his effort. He may not get all he would like yet he knows he'll get something. He knows that if he's confident, if he works hard, and if he's willing to take risks that life will be enjoyable and he will have a harvest. He knows he will survive and be able to plant next year.

Everyone knows that you cannot save yourself wealthy, that if you horde your wealth it will shrink; that the Bible says you harvest what you sow, that doing nothing is the same as going backwards and that you have to spend money to make money.

The solution to this recession is to sow a crop in the form of highways, bridges, alternative energy and public works projects. We will work our way through this. And yes, borrow if we must. If it does not work then we know we went down fighting and we died with our boots on. Go for it and let the devil take the hindmost.
