Is it possible that right-wing Republicans (meaning: all of them) can dive any deeper into the political gutter? Into the swirling sewer of their own stupidity and willful ignorance? The latest -- e pluribus unum -- is their disgusting attack on Federal Appeals Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor. In the 72 hours since President Obama nominated her for the U.S. Supreme Court, the usual crowd of right-wing thugs and media garbage has been more excited than when it discovered that Clarence Thomas, during his nomination hearing fancied himself a porn star named, uh, Long Dong Silver.

Oy.

From the howling of former Colorado Representative Tom Tancredo -- who, during his 10 years in Washington was one of only 33 congressmen to vote against the renewal of the Voting Rights Act and who got all jokey during a speech in South Carolina before the proto-KKK group, League of the South -- to the President of the Republican Party, Rush "Oxycontin" Limbaugh, to the execrable serial adulterer Newt Gingrich, up to and including the screeching of the Right-Wing Moon Bat Ladies Aid Society co-chairs, Anne Coulter and Laura Ingraham, the attacks against Sotomayor have been sustained and soaked in lunacy. Together, these fine examples of people desperately in need of armed supervision have done nothing but ceaselessly scream "Racist! She's a racist! She's a racist! Racist! RACIST!!!!

Here's the quote, the context of which was a discussion of racial or gender discrimination court cases, taken from a 2001 speech, that has the neo-Cons clawing for oxygen and screeching that Sotomayor obviously cannot be "objective"...

"I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn't lived that life."

To the Normal Mind, the Rational Being, or the person who has lived here for awhile, Sotomayor's conditional statement is steeped in reality, fact, and cultural awareness. However, to a "Conservative" or member of the dying Republican Party the statement is ... red meat dangled in front of a starving Komodo Lizard.

And how long ago was it -- months? -- that the shrieking centered on whether or not Barack Obama was capable of being objective because he's Black and whether Hillary Clinton could be tough and effective because she's a woman.  ( I mean, Jesus, what if she got all hot-flashy just as she was about to hold disarmament talks with North Korea's Kim Jung Crazy, right?)

Commenting to the Denver Post, Nancy Wadsworth, a professor at the University of Denver who teaches courses on race and religion in politics said, "White males think they make all decisions in the abstract, in some vacuum. The assumption is that if you are (Chief Justice) John Roberts, a white male, your ability to hold off bias is unquestioned."

Yeah. Of course. Um, look at the decisions made by white males in the Bush Crime Family during the past eight years. All those Really Important Decisions made in the abstract, right? You know, about War and Death and Torture and The Economy and His Gameboy and Peanut Butter Sammiches. No bias. Clear-headed, purely logical, right to the point, not even a touch of bias.

The frighteningly white Newt Gingrich Twittered all the way from his current tour of the former Nazi death camps, "White man racist nominee would be forced to withdraw. Latina woman racist should also withdraw. New racism is no better than old racism." Hmmmmmm . . . why is he talking like that? Maybe burr lodged deep in ass?

Talk Radio's Numero Uno Drug Addict (who is living proof there are two standards of justice for drug law violators) weighed in (giggle) with, "She's a reverse racist and a party hack." Wow! Strong words, Drug-Boy.

Over-Valiumed Coulter-wannabe Laura Ingraham could only repeat what Coulter trilled about Sotomayor's "liberal bias" and baby-killing conflicts. Ingraham apparently decided to forego any body references to Sotomayor like the one she used against John McCain's daughter Meghan recently. ("She didn't get the role in the Real World because they don't like plus-sized models.") See, Laura wants to be . . . thin. Like Ann Coulter is . . . thin.

Aw, for god's sake. Is this the best the Dying Republican Party can do? Are these circus freaks really speaking for American Conservatism in 2009? Has the Permanent Republican Majority Karl Rove was so arrogantly and idiotically certain he could force onto the country been reduced to this never-ending parade of golems and goblins, devilish little creatures spitting and biting, while the rest of us keep moving . . . away?

Yes, yes, and yes.
