Televangelist, faith healer and leader in the religious right, Pat Robertson, has suffered a legal loss when his legal group, the American Center for Law and Justice, lost in its efforts to have "Obamacare" ruled unconstitutional yesterday.
The part of the law that Robertson's ACLJ attacked was the part requiring everyone to purchase health insurance. The plaintiffs were five people who can afford to purchase health insurance but who don't want to. The main reason for not buying health insurance is because they are "Christians who said they want to refuse all medical services for the rest of their lives because they believe God will heal their afflictions. They say being forced to buy insurance would conflict with their faith because they believe doing so would indicate they need 'a backup plan and (are) not really sure whether God will, in fact, provide.'"
Most people who voted for Obama made the mistake of thinking he was going to bring about health care similar to what Europe has. As shown in Mike Moore's Sicko , people in Europe get free (paid for through the taxes they pay) medical care. Instead, Obama's health care favors giant insurance corporations and big pharma instead of the average person.
Christians and the "revealed" religionists are not used to people being honest and openly objective with them. They are not held to any standard of accountability. That is probably why, for example, the Catholic Church does nothing meaningful to stop sex crimes against children after hundreds, if not thousands, of priests were caught raping and molesting innocent children.
A good way to change this unnatural and unreasonable situation would be to start making them put up or shut up. Pat Robertson and all Christians believe the Bible is the word of God. If that is true, then the Bible would be true. And if the Bible is true then there is absolutely no need for health care or for any type of medical or even dental care since the Bible promises Christians that they are able to heal the sick (Mark 16:17-18; James 5:14-15). Pat and his Christian followers need to step up in the Christian faith and start clearing out the hospitals! They need to put Jerry Lewis and the MDA out of business! However, if he and his fellow Christians can't do it, then they need to be stopped from making claims to the contrary. If they say they can do something but in reality they can't, then they are nothing but liars and need to be exposed as what they really are. Calling the religious leaders out on the fact that their Bible is full of holes will eventually lead to a weakening of the religious right. Especially if it's done in a Deistic way. Deism is belief in God based on the application of our reason on the designs in Nature. Deists believe the designs point us to our Designer. Since Deists value God-given reason, they do NOT value the Bible, Torah, Koran, etc. The Deistic belief in God allows Deists to connect with "revealed" religionists. Once the "revealed" religionists realize they have to give up their God-given reason in order to believe in man-made "holy" books, the end will truly be near for the religious right.
