Members of Congress must Pass the Debt Ceiling Increase of Face the Charge of Treason
The economic fallout to the United States' reputation, the economy and the stock market would be so immeasurable, were the United States Congress VOTE "NOT TO", or NOT "VOTE TO" raise the debt ceiling that we could well plunge into another recession, the Next Great Depression, and likely cause a world wide Depression.
Whether the reason for this intransigence is crass politics, deeply-held ideological beliefs, or pure ignorance, matters not a wit. Congress has passed Laws /Bill that have caused the "past due" debt, and they must be held responsible or face the charge of Treason, for not paying for the DEBTS THEY CREATED, or at a Minimum to raise the Debt Ceiling allowing the USA Government to function!
Article 4 & 5 of the Fourteenth Amendment:
4. The validity of the public debt of the United States, authorized by law, including debts incurred for payment of pensions and bounties for services in suppressing insurrection or rebellion, shall not be questioned. ".{But neither the United States nor any State shall assume or pay any debt or obligation incurred in aid of insurrection or rebellion against the United States, or any claim for the loss or emancipation of any slave; but all such debts, obligations and claims shall be held illegal and void.} {Part 2: is irrelevant for this argument}
5. The Congress shall have power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article.
The debts of the United States that have been incurred over the past 10-30 years (Reagan..Bush 2, Obama), must be paid.
{This is whether or not the Congress can reach an agreement on spending cuts, and revenue increases. Both are needed, a "common sense" agreement would be most worthwhile, but Congress cannot hold The USA hostage to their whim for getting only spending cuts or only revenue increases by allowing the great United states of America to default on its PAST debts.}
Not to do so, would cause the United States of America to default. The Act of standing by and allowing the USA to default is an Act of Treason by the Members of Congress who have sworn to uphold and defend the USA.
Any President, Senator, or Representative who does not vote "aye" to increasing the debt ceiling, will have not upheld his oath of office -- "To defend and protect the Constitution of The United States". Hence, this must be considered an impeachable offense.
Furthermore , any President, and / or Member of Congress who voted for the various Bills (listed below) that led to this debt of $14.5 Trillion (7/1/2011) and counting, will be held to a higher standard of "treason" should they "not vote", or vote "Not to" "pay for the debts" their prior votes have incurred:
Hence, any President or Member of Congress who voted "yes" but did not "pay for":
