P.O.P. : Party of the People

By Tereasa Sanders-Halligan

It's time to take back our country! This is a call to arms!! Let me define "arms" as the arms attached to regular people which will now hold this country and keep it safe. The arms which will hold the reins and guide us safely into the future!

I read somewhere that a government is only what we insist on it being and we have apparently "insisted' that it be a government of individuals who speak in their own interests contrary to their job title which was meant that they speak for us. We've allowed a government where power games are allowed to occur that put our nations credit rating at risk. Our credit rating was tossed aside in a game of king of the hill where political parties and political agendas determined who was top dog and our nations credit/good name was allowed to be buried under their heap while the donkeys and elephants ran around shouting with glee :We are king of the hill. WHooHoo!

We've set the Democrats and Republicans and Tea Party folks free and allowed them to run amok. A government is what we insist on it being!! I don't know about you but I insist that this is not what I insist and things need to change around here!

I don't want to hear rich, hair sprayed politicos in suits tell me even one more time how the mess is the fault of the big man who sits in an egg shaped office! I don't want to hear anymore from the mouthy gal who traded Alaska in for a tea bag about how we the people need a maverick in office who will magically fix all of the mess ups that are the fault of the hair sprayed politicos and the big man in the egg shaped office. I do not want to hear our Bill Of Rights used to further an agenda that is the opposite of what that document intended. I want to stand beside you out there knowing that the mess we are in is the fault of all of the hair sprayed politicos, the gal who traded in Alaska for a tea bag, the man in the egg shaped office and those who once sat there before him and it is the fault of those who have "insisted" that this is the kind of government we allow! It's all of our faults but we can fix it.

The only real qualifications to be the one who sits in that egg shaped office is that a person be a natural born citizen and 35 years of age or older. So that means somebody out there who isn't of the usual political persuasions needs to stand up and say :

"I am running for President of the United States of America. I represent the Political party Of the People! I am not rich, I am undereducated, I'm not a lawyer or of a political family. I am an ordinary American! I work for a living when I'm not unemployed. I pay my house payments when I'm not being foreclosed on. I pay taxes when I actually have any earned income and I know that when the bills don't get paid the credit gets screwed up.

My campaign promise is that I won't make the man who earns a dollar pay in taxes 95 cents while the man who earns a million pays a dollar. I will never consider using the monies of our Elders to fix a credit crunch because our Elders paid their way a long time ago and it is not ours to borrow. I will create jobs by hiring bodies to secure our borders better then they are right now. We'll have no need to dream act because the now employed are vigilantly watching every corner and every inch is covered! With border control a number one priority, more agricultural jobs may become available. From the rolls of public assistance I will offer these jobs in agriculture in lieu of a monthly check where they can earn that check and provide for their families righteously. I will overhaul immigration and make it easier for those wanting to immigrate here to do it legally. This will create a system where the new citizen pays taxes the same as those born to it. With this our deficit has the potential to shrink in a more substantial way. I will not give tax breaks to big business who send the work overseas in order to save a buck. I will give tax penalties to big business who have forgotten that though they save a buck in using foreign labor they lose big bucks by putting out of work those who are their biggest consumer. I will remind them that when Americans have no jobs, they have no money and thus can not buy the product. I will remind them that America was once their biggest buyer.

If elected to the office of President of these United States I will remind you daily that the President does not stand alone. That when something needs deciding, I stand amongst the others that the people send to govern. I will use my vote wisely on the issues and will represent your wishes but it is still the majority of the votes that gets the job done. I will suggest sending those from amongst the ranks of regular Americans to fill those other voting seats of Congress as well as this one. I will rejoice to see the geriatric politicos retire and a younger, more ordinary congressional opinion rear it's head!

While campaigning, I will not be able to rely on media to get me to the people. I will rely on the American tradition of "word of mouth' instead as well as on the wonderful world of technology. I will trust you all to get me out there and in there! It was never written in our constitution that only those with big bucks who can afford to pay their way to your attention shall hold the office of President. Somewhere along the way that is where it went though!! A poor person is kept out while he or she may be the one to bring about positive change and make our world a better place.

I promise to do my best for all of us. I can not promise longer recesses or more school vacations like the others may promise but I will strive to make your voices heard and do the very best job I can with that in mind.

I give you me for President. -Mister/Ms. Ordinary America! "

**NOTE** I write this with hardly any education in the literary arts or elsewhere. I didn't even use my thesaurus to make it better. I write it because it needs written. I dare you to do the same! Write your scenario in simple language as there will be no grade. If we all made ourselves a small voice then perhaps a larger message would get out? Something really does need to change in our country and mayhap I am right. Only one from amongst the ranks of the ordinary class will be able to accomplish this as they've not forgotten what it takes to get it done!

A government is what we insist it is
