Bill Clinton Named PETA's 2010 "Person of the Year'
Really? Â Why? Â Â What has Bill Clinton done for Animal Welfare?
What he has done in the past: President Clinton signed NAFTA and the WTO. This allowed for US employers to outsource American Middle Class jobs to other nations, and to move practices to places with fewer regulations. While this affected our wages, the environment, and the economy as a whole, it also affected ANIMALS. This allowed for companies to manufacture everything from FUR to SOAP outside this country and away from ANIMAL CRUELTY laws.Â
What he is doing now: Â He went "Vegan' for health reasons - not for the animals. Â (He is not even really Vegan - he still eats fish - that is vegetarianism, Bill)
What about the animals PETA? Â Â What about your original mission statement?Â
"The very heart of all of PETA's actions is the idea that it is the right of all beings--human and nonhuman alike--to be free from harm. Our world is plagued with many serious problems, all of which deserve our attention. Cruelty to animals is one of them. We believe that all people should try to stop animal abuse whenever and wherever they can."Â
This is wrong-headed decision at best - at worst an attention grabbing stunt by PETA to use a highly prominent person for the wrong reasons Although most would agree that Mr Clinton is a great humanitarian, he is not, nor has he ever been an animal rights advocate. Â Â
This is an obvious misuse of Mr. Clinton's celebrity  to  solicit donations from star-struck donors who don't really understand animal welfare.  It is not about fashionable diets, or wardrobe decisions - it's about the animals and what we can do to improve their lives. It is certainly not about a person's cardio-vascular health!
PETA, think about all the compassionate people who have committed their lives to the health and well-being of the animals in this country and around the world. Â They devote incredible effort and resources to making life better for animals. Â

Why isn't one of those people your "Person of the Year'? Â I am sure they could use the exposure so that they can receive the financial support they so desperately need. Â Â Must you hog all the money and recognition? Â Â What are you going to do with all that money? Â There are some very deserving animal welfare groups that could use that money to do real animal rescue work. Â What have you done for the animals lately? Â Â Â
It is becoming very apparent that you are now working against the people and organizations that are very serious about animal welfare.   This is a slap in the face to them and to the animals that they save and protect.  They don't need splashy photo ops and press releases - they need real help! Â
