This is a public email from Federal Senator Orrin Hatch to Utahns and other Americans:
This week, I spent over 30 hours in Senate Judiciary Hearings as the American people had a chance to see what I've been saying for months: Judge Brett Kavanaugh will make a spectacular Supreme Court Justice. He's qualified, he's prepared, and he's more than ready to serve.
Judge Kavanaugh is an indisputably qualified nominee, who has won support from both sides of the political spectrum.
On Tuesday, I gave my opening statement, highlighting Judge Kavanaugh's "sterling character and qualifications," noting that being well within the judicial mainstream has won him a strong backing in the legal community, with support from both sides
I joined Martha McCallum on Fox News to give a recap of the first day, and to discuss judge Kavanaugh's excellent performance.
On Wednesday I had my first opportunity to question Judge Kavanaugh, and I took the opportunity to ask him first and foremost where his loyalties lie: with the President or the Constitution. He took many opportunities to state that as an independent judge, his first responsibility was to the law of the United States. We also discussed his feelings about diversity in the legal profession, his views on separation of powers, environmental interests, and several other key issues that effectively illustrate his judicial philosophy.
I discussed the day's proceedings on Fox News that night, talking protestors, documents, and Democrat disruptions, and once again breaking down Judge Kavanaugh's stellar performance.
Day three brought my second round of questions, and we discussed the Mueller probe, religious liberty, intellectual property, and criminal justice reform, among other key issues.
Over the next few weeks, I'll continue to work with my colleagues to advance Judge Kavanaugh's nomination through the committee then the final floor vote.
I believe he'll be confirmed in time to join the Supreme Court when they reconvene in October, where he will make a spectacular judge.
Sincerely,
Orrin
