Despite the huge steps forward brought about by the overturning of PASPA (The Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act,) the progress of online gambling in the US has hit a snag. In January the legal opinions of the US Department of Justice on the viability of online gambling that crosses state lines were made public . Their findings were the latest blow to an industry that has been heavily marginalized despite the big economic arguments in its favour.

This has only been the case since the Supreme Court overturned the PASPA ruling against online sports betting in May 2018.

Legalization of online gambling in these states is a relatively recent development, although it has borne impressive economic results. Figures recently released have shown that the internet gambling yield in New Jersey is up 21.6%.
