Well it's happened. The Big Oil lobbyists have finally fully infiltrated their first public school system with their polluted propaganda. History will remember -- it started in Wyoming. Governor Matt Mead had no problem approving legislation that effectively bans the common core science standards currently accepted in 26 states because they teach that global climate change caused by burning fossil fuels is settled science.

According to TakePart.com...

"Wyoming legislators put the science standards restriction in a footnote in the budget bill, citing the state's oil-based economy as a key reason to ban the standards. The governor could have chosen to veto that line item but didn't.

"'[The standards] handle global warming as settled science,' Rep. Matt Teeters, a Republican from Lingle, told local media. 'There's all kind of social implications involved in that that I don't think would be good for Wyoming.' Teeters said teaching the standards in Wyoming could harm the economy because the state is the nation's largest energy exporter.

"The state's board of education chairman also denies climate change. 'I don't accept, personally, that it is a fact,' Ron Micheli said in the same article. '[The standards are] very prejudiced in my opinion against fossil-fuel development.'"

So there you go. If science disagrees with the corporate interest, just don't teach it! Poof! Down the memory hole.  The politicos don't even pretend to deny that their decision is based entirely on their state's economic interests.  Money trumps everything. Kids be dammed, we have to protect Big Oil at all costs.

What a sickening precedent this sets -- the slipperiest of slopes. How long before certain Southern states decide that teaching evolution is going to aggravate the Southern Baptist Convention, which may pull its sizable educational endowments?

This is the future, Truthseekers.  Better get used to it.
