Occupy The World, The Collective Consciousness And Human Evolution

James Lovelock hypothesized in his infamous "Gaia Hypothesis" that the Earth operated as if it were one living system.   The Gaia Hypothesis as defined by Wikapedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaia_hypothesis) proposes that:

all organisms and their inorganic surroundings on Earth are closely integrated to form a single and self-regulating complex system, maintaining the conditions for life on the planet.

Could it be that the arising of the "Occupy Movements", from New York to Washington D.C. to Europe has this same type of universal consciousness at its core? Could it also be that the Occupy Movements are one with other recent large scale movements such as the more feminine, Earth based spiritualities (e.g., Baring and Cashford, 1993) which postulate that the Earth was once seen as an intelligent system.

Indeed, in ancient times the Earth was seen as Feminine and treated with more awe and respect than modern days. Today, this once sacred being that was loved, revered and feared, is treated as a resource to be exploited. Yet, could we also hypothesize that Her anger is flaring up in the face of climate change, and, expressed, even, in the Occupy Movements?   Is the Occupy Movement a collective action, an evolution, emerging from the depths of human consciousness which is united with the consciousness of the Earth?

It is interesting that while New York was the epicenter of the occupy movement, it spread like wildfire. Could this signify that a large portion of the human species was primed and ready for this movement? Could this also be an example of the actions of a collective consciousness in humanity? For example, psychiatrist Carl Jung postulated in humanity a Collective Unconscious defined as thus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collective_unconscious):

Jung distinguished the collective unconscious from the personal unconscious, in that the personal unconscious is a personal reservoir of experience unique to each individual, while the collective unconscious collects and organizes those personal experiences in a similar way with each member of a particular species.

Is the human collective but a thread in the collective of the planet and of the universe?   Perhaps Intelligence or Wisdom is not given to just the egotistical mind of Man but is, instead, the foundations of Nature?

As the Bible's "Book of Hagia Sophia" (Wisdom) states (New Jerusalem Bible), "She pervades and permeates the entire world" (Wisdom 6:9).

Perhaps She too is responsible for the beginning and end of species, and ways of life? What is death if not the portal for new life? Without even believing in an afterlife for the ego to pervade, death can be seen as a living process as evidenced by phrases such as "pushing up daisies" in reference to a decaying, dead body.

Could the Wisdom of the Earth also be behind all the "Occupy" movements? Could we be in the midst of a major, worldwide change?   Perhaps we are at an end to the old way of life that has been for the past 6-8,000 years? Or perhaps we are heading for a time of extinction? At any rate, we WILL change. As Wisdom 8:27 states: "Herself unchanging, She renews the world."

Birth requires death. For a fetus to be born, it must die to being a fetus.   This is the foundations of change. Yet, the Process or Way behind the change is unchanging.

One of the risks of any movement, be it the Occupy Movement, the French Revolution or even the American Revolution, is the danger of a "meet the new boss same as the old boss" scenario. For real birth to happen, death must occur. Unfortunately, we have been stuck in a pattern for the past 6,000 or so years that we must break free of. Breaking free entails dying too.

As we look back on history, we find that the French Revolution led to Napoleon, the American Revolution to the Wall Street fiasco, the Russian to the likes of Stalin, and the German to Hitler. We as a species are stuck in a pattern that needs to be broken. We refuse to die to the old ways and continue to allow ourselves to be at the mercy of some egocentric monster be he a Hitler or a Wall Street Executive.

While the Occupy Movements are a shining beam of hope for real change, beneath the surface danger lurks. We need to be on guard for this danger. We cannot afford, nor can the Earth afford, another reign of the same King in a different outfit. We need to empower ourselves individually, in our families and in our communities and that power must lie anchored in the power and intelligence of Nature Herself.

In China the term crisis is defined as a "dangerous opportunity." This is what we have today. We are at a pivot point in history. We can take charge and create a human society grounded in love for each other, for the earth and for the entire universe. Or, we can have another revolution and stay stuck in a pattern that has existed since the dawn of civilization. To get past that pattern, we must see that the Emperor truly does have no clothes and it has been we that have clothed him. We need to stop clothing him and see him as he is underneath all those layers.
