Even the smallest of communities can take a stand and have their voices heard in the nationwide movement that began in New York City, and has spread across the country with the tag "Occupy" and the insertion of the local participating community right behind it.

A small group of local residents in the small desert town of Barstow, California, gathered together outside of City Hall on Saturday morning, and then marched down the Main Street of town, ending up outside of the offices of the local newspaper.

The event was organized by area activist Charles Waybright, who has also recently started up a local online alternative news source called the Mojave Free Press. Mr. Waybright used facebook and his online publication to spread the word about the event.

Among the participants were city planning commissioner, Carmen Hernandez, local retired college instructor, Dale Jensen, former Barstow Unified School District teachers, Congressional candidate Jackie Conaway, business people, as well as other area residents.

The event was organized to point out how corporate greed is destroying the America that we all grew up in. The protestors fear for the futures of their children and grandchildren. The fact that while 99% of the country is suffering economically, the 1% of the wealthiest Americans just keep getting richer at the expense of the middle class taxpayers. This is what has Americans, like the residents of Barstow, California, taking to the streets in protest and anger.
