President Obama has taken a bold step in calling for a nuclear free world--a call which has not been new. (See Obama promotes nuclear-free world.) It is applaudable that the US and Russia systemtically reduce their nuclear stockpile and encourage every other nuclear power to do so.
Yet, one major country is left out of the call--Israel. The Jewish State has never denied or confirmed the existence of nuclear weapons on its soil but the presence is highly known within the US and other countries. While Iran is subjected to call after call to stop its nuclear programme, America and other countries remain silent on Israel. It is high time for the West to be assertive and ask for transparency on Israel if they want a nuclear free Middle East and nuclear free world.
It's not like America and other countries don't know about the weapons. In fact, France started the ball rolling in the 1950s for Israel and the US saw the production plant by the 1960s/1970s.
