I asked directly or by email, close to 100 bucks county democrats how they'd respond-- not at all a scientific poll. But the response was very un-poll-like. Not one person said he or she was voting for Specter-- not a good sign for our incumbent senator.but he has union support, like he did in 2006 and in Philly, many voters do what their ward leaders, often local ministers, tell them to do.
The big question, that I haven't heard from anyone yet, is-- What will Specter do tomorrow, if he loses? Will he stay a Dem? Will he still be on board with the Dem program? Should be interesting. My guess is he will. Any flip back to the GOP would totally wipe out the narrative he's created as a part of his history. He COULD start moving to operate more like Joe Lieberman. That might still be consistent with his narrative.
Here are some comments from the people who responded to my informal poll:
My wife will never forget the hatchet job he did on Anita Hill.

Sestak. I've met Specter on a few occasions over the years and was not impressed with his middle of the road (or to the right) stand on issues. Sestak is stronger on women's reproductive freedom as well.

of course it's Sestak because he's more progressive than Specter. Also he's more pro-choice than Specter (accdg. to Planned Parenthood).

another leader of a Dem township group said the group voted to endorse Sestak.

voted sestak - more progressive voting record, specter still doesn't
get the "anita hill" blowback and is way too cozy with militant nra

I voted for Sestak, in protest against Specter. I think Specter has a chance of winning because of the weather. I don't really like either of the candidates. Sestak doesn't impress me very much. But if the "anti-imcumbent fever" continues to run amok, the Republicans will win Specter's Senate Seat, the Governor's seat in Harrisburg, the 8th Congressional Seat from Murphy and the 31 House District in PA from Santarsiero. Bad weather supresses the vote, as does voter apathy, fatique etc. I was number 7 in line this morning at my poll . It seems that has been the pattern of Governor, Senator and other races in PA.
