When I was elected as chairman of the cleanup committee for the spring prom in Junior High School I didn't realize at the time that it would be the first and last official elected position I would ever hold. Times have changed dramatically since then and now it is entirely possible for anyone to hold a position of great power and influence without being elected by a majority of their peers or by anyone else.  Evidently you simply appoint yourself to a lofty position and tell people to jump and expect them to respond with "How high?"

From this lofty position all you need to do is draft an official looking pledge and convince others (who have been elected) that once this 'pledge' is signed it is an iron-clad, set-in-stone contract, broken only on the death of the signer.

This is the ridiculous current situation in our Congress.  A single person with a single agenda of a single contract has led our Senators and Representatives on a Merry Chase with a signed pledge to never, ever again raise taxes under any circumstances.  To my way of thinking, (old fashioned reasoning, for sure) this pledge currently enjoying so much notoriety is being used to hold all new legislation related to the economy hostage. In CongressSpeak DOA, it should have been (Dead on Arrival.) It does not have any real validity or value other than the cost of printing on bought-in-bulk paper.  I can't help but wonder exactly who authorized it, who voted on it, who validated it or who decided it had any significance in any way, shape or form.  As I am one 'of-the-people, for-the-people, and by-the-people,' I do not remember that this pledge, the one that carries with it so much perceived power, was ever an issue brought to the attention of 'we-the-people.'

As this form of nonsensical maneuvering goes unchecked in our Congress, (there appears to be no questions raised as to whether or not it is a legal document,) I would like to submit my own pledge, (considering myself highly qualified as I have not been elected to anything,) a pledge that I sincerely believe would benefit more folks than the current never-never-never-raise-taxes-again pledge that is being waved around every discussion regarding this country's financial affairs like a red flag in front of a raging bull.

My proposed pledge is very simple.....

SINCERITY PLEDGE  (Pending Authorization)

I,___________________(Senator or Representative)

As an Elected Official and Employee of the sincere voters, who by their votes gave me their trust and confidence, I pledge the following:

I pledge to dedicate all of my efforts and desires to accomplishing what is best for my country and my countrymen and women.

It has been brought to my attention that my bio was rather undistinguished and should perhaps be 'jazzed' up a bit. So, after serious consideration, I will add a few highlights that may or may not prove interesting to anyone who by chance happens (more...)
