Some men love sexual marathons. Yet like anything else, too much of a good thing can harm...or even kill.
Men who engage in sex 5, 10--even 15 times daily--run a very high risk of severely shortening their lifespans.
Sex can be very athletic, ask
most newlyweds. Keeping physically active is a good thing and as study
after study has shown, sex can be a very effective method of staying in
shape. It's aerobic in nature and certainly helps tone the body's muscles, including the heart.
But overdoing it--consistently participating in frequent, extremely physical sex to the point of total exhaustion--can lead to an enlarged heart.
Some athletes develop enlarged hearts from consistently pushing themselves to the extreme and passing the point of exhaustion. Such abuse can affect the overtaxed heart muscles and lead to extra muscle tissue developing and the heart literally enlarging to accommodate the extra blood flow and constant demands made upon it.
According to the American Heart Association, one of the causes attributed to enlarged hearts is "a thickening of the heart muscle because of increased workload."
Enlarge hearts pump less efficiently and may eventually lead to congestive heart failure, circulatory problems, and early death.
Another danger that mega-sex men face is the increased amounts of free radicals released into the body by intense physical activity repeated consistently over long periods of time.
Extreme sexual activity over long periods of time will cause excessive amounts of free radicals to be released. Much research has revealed that free radicals cause oxidation of the cells and may be one of the root causes of various cancers.
Some research has suggested that the cause of some prostrate cancers may be a virus. Like cervical cancer in women, a man may be exposed to a virus by repeated sexual encounters with different sexual partners over a long period of time.
Limiting frequent sex to one partner--or a very limited universe of sexual partners--may reduce this risk.
