The gun lobby says military style weapons are not often used in crimes and that civilians have the "right" to such mass kill, non-defensive weapons.

The New York Times says the AR-15, used in Aurora, "was tightly restricted under a 1994 law known as the assault weapons ban. The law expired in 2004" and that such weapons are called Barbie dolls for men because of their many "accessories and replacement parts, including different styles of barrels, stocks, magazines and scopes."
The three types of weapons used by the Aurora killer are "among the most popular guns available in the multibillion-dollar American firearms market" says the Times and feed a growing sport among gun enthusiasts called the "three-gun competition," in which "sharpshooters use a version of each of the weapons as they move from target set to target set, firing and reloading as rapidly as possible." Whee!
Only America thinks civilians have the "right" to such weapons and only America has Auroras and Chattanoogas.
