Rebels are racing west along the north-coast highway bordering
the Gulf of Sidra, toward Sirte (Surt on the map).
Events are moving very rapidly now in many parts of Libya. Gaddafi's troops have crumbled into panicked retreat and disorder in some areas, while rebels, able to move about much more freely thanks to NATO-led airstrikes, have retaken two oil ports and are racing toward Sirte, Gaddafi's birth place, which may soon become an epic battle:
