Tony Pirog, founder of Progressives United Against DINO Democrats, has widely hinted--all over Facebook, in fact--that the Syrian war was cooked up to distract the public from a devious Congress and president seeking to fast-track the TPP.
TPP: Secret War on US by GlobalTradeWatch
Speculation? Sure. But PLAUSIBLE speculation. Infinitely
more plausible than Obamabots' cockamamie sugar-coating of the nauseating Syrian
pill as our Strategic-Genius-in-Chief's ever-so-gentle attempt to educate a
misguided public about the evils of war and the Israel lobby. Yet deranged
O-bots queue up for city blocks to swallow that pill--anything but the obvious truth
that their hero, betrayer of everything Martin Luther King stood for, is a
vicious, deceitful plutocrats' tool. Proving, for future historians' edification, how
successful fascist propaganda creates model fascist citizens. And there's no
scarier index of how deeply fascism now imperils our one-time republic than the
sheer number of model fascist citizens who aren't raving Tea Baggers--but rank-and-file
DEMOCRATS.
But for those of us who AREN'T model fascist
citizens, the thought of fascism inevitably suggests the Trans-Pacific Partnership.
How could it not? For brazen overreach by a government that rubber-stamps the
will of ruthless oligarchs and long ago deep-sixed ordinary citizens, it's hard
to imagine a more brutal case. For brass-codpieced brazenness, nothing could
top the timing: just when former Labor Secretary Robert Reich--in his heroic
campaign to raise alarm--is trumpeting statistics proving U.S. economic
inequality at its all-time worst, trouncing even the Gilded Age, our wholly
owned corporate Congress is about to FAST-TRACK a secret treaty guaranteed to
WORSEN that inequality. And so subservient is that Congress to plutocrat interests
that it even renounces its own proud prerogative--indeed, its Constitutional mandate
as vigilant watchdog of We the People--to even know what's in the treaty. Unlike, say,
the global corporate oligarchs drafting its every word.
If I reunited the Trans-Pacific Partnership and the
war on Syria, and reunited them specifically as acts of
tyranny, it's to circle back to my main theme. Both of these, the one perhaps
used to draw attention from the other, fully qualify for a name once dear to
the founders of this country. They are the new "Intolerable Acts," and our
safety as a nation rapidly returning to its status as a colony--not of King
George but of global oligarchs--depends on angrily repudiating them as such. But
while a Syrian war would simply waste more of our desperately needed domestic resources
and turn handfuls more into cannon fodder, the TPP would put us ALL in full
colonial exploitation mode. Josh Fox has already frighteningly noted in Gasland 2 how extreme modern fossil fuel
extraction--and there is no other kind--is already turning large areas of the U.S
into a resource extraction colony. Just wait till the Trans-Pacific Partnership
legalizes that arrangement for EVERY global industry.
The good news is, Congressfolk must still suffer the
ordeal of elections and therefore can't remain insensitive to widespread
citizen outrage. Perhaps the Syrian war WAS meant to distract us from the TPP,
but it could backfire as the most STUPID choice of distraction our tyrannical
overlords ever made. For it really did awaken the almost universal outrage of
that sleeping giant known as the American public, and in stopping dead the
project of a Syrian war, showed how just effective the mobilized outrage of the
American public can be.
While the TPP is sadly far less known than the
Syrian war--perhaps indicating the war WAS publicized as a distraction--it is a
FAR graver assault on our well-being than a Syrian war would have been. Along
with the unjust, climate-destroying power of the fossil fuel industry, it
really does menace ALL Americans with becoming the exploited colonial victims
of self-serving global corporate oligarchs. We successfully mobilized against
the Syrian war, and while our tyrannical Goliath enemy is still staggering, now
is the time to hit him with a MASSIVE slingshot volley of outrage opposing the TPP.
And our connecting the two--both as "Intolerable Acts," and the Syrian war as a villainous
attempt to distract us from the fast-tracking of the TPP--is EXACTLY the sort of
unruly citizen suspicion a cocksure government betting on our torpor needs to hear. I, for
one, fully intend to write Congress in that vein.
As a means of launching an all-out campaign against
TPP, I strongly recommend joining the Facebook group Progressives United against
DINO Democrats. Besides being a fast-growing new group attracting many talented
activists, we're networked, through those activists, to a wide array of
like-minded groups--many much larger--fighting for genuine progressive aims. To
join this expanding network, here's our link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/honestprogressives/ .
