Let's discuss the arrest everyone is talking about...Justin Bieber's. Social media has been in a firestorm since then with hilarious memes not to mention many people's not so secret lust for his demise.
Not only do I share some of the
Bieber hatred as a voyuer and I am personally fascinated by the story, but I told one of my young cousins that Justin Bieber
kills puppies in hopes that they wouldn't listen to his music. He seems like a smug punk. But at
the same time, I can't help but feel a little sorry for the guy.
Bieber
is the product of the marketed American mainstream. When he was young (and we all know the story), he was tracked down on the internet by
someone who told him he could make it. Immediately the young Canadian kid from a
broken home was moved to Atlanta where he turned into an overnight mega
star initially surrounded by only a team of adults telling him what to do.
Throughout the years, he's made hundreds of
millions of dollars being a teenage heart-throb brand with typical, mediocre mainstream music. And more recently he's made friends his own age and fallen
in the all too common trap of a kid star descending in a downward
spiral with money and no rules to follow. We've seen this before.
The fact that most kid stars seem to take
this descent isn't documented professionally by any mainstream
psychologist other than media psychologist Dr. Drew. But as an outsider, it is obvious
however that the parents share part of the blame.
In Bieber's case his mother, Pattie Mallette, supposedly gave her mega star son drugs illegally, while tweeting about recording episodes of the Bachleor. In the meantime, his father blocked off traffic which helped cause his son's arrest. Some parents.
Now I'm not siding with Bieber,
because he clearly is a turd who thinks he's untouchable. But maybe he's
not completely to blame for his current state of turdom. That said, obviously he
needs someone to guide him into figuring himself out in a healthy way
instead of never telling him no. Unfortunately, I don't think that will be his
parents because after all, he is their meal ticket. Somehow he'll have to figure it out, otherwise his future looks grim. River Phoenix comes to mind.
