Brett Kavanaugh should be removed from his position as a federal judge and prosecuted for his assaults on women. The reality that Republicans are poised to approve him as a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court is an indictment of the Republican party that will not be forgiven. Ford's testimony has re-awakened the painful memories of sexual assaults that millions of women have lived with.

Talking about the hearing, a relative of mine blurted out that she'd been sexually assaulted thirty years ago, and that her telling me was the first time she'd told anyone. I believe that this kind of re-opening of old wounds has happened in the past weeks. The Republicans who vote to make Kavanaugh the next supreme court justice will be sullying the reputation of the supreme court, perhaps permanently. But they will also be digging their own grave in the November midterm elections. I am certain that polls will show this.

Dr. Ford met her goal, offering convincing testimony that was highly believable. She acted in the way an honest truth-teller behaves, fully cooperating, asking for an effort to investigate as much as possible.

Brett Kavanaugh failed miserably, showing terrible petulant, temperament, evasive argumentation, and adolescent teenage boy demeanor.

Washington Post columnist Jennifer Rubin wrote,

"Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh decided that to have any chance to reach the court, he would have to shed the pretense he was a fair-minded, calm, judicious thinker. He came out in the afternoon filled with venom, screaming at the committee."

But worst, it was very clear he was lying about his yearbook statements. An innocent man would demand an FBI investigation. He refused to do so. That looks very bad. It looks guilty.

The eleven Republican senators who hid behind their "assistant" were cowards, unwilling to talk directly with Dr. Ford.

A New York Times Editorial Board op-ed stated,

"On Thursday, he gave misleading answers to questions about seemingly small matters -- sharpening doubts about his honesty about far more significant ones. He gave coy answers when pressed about what was clearly a sexual innuendo in his high-school yearbook. He insisted over and over that others Dr. Blasey named as attending the gathering had "said it didn't happen," when in fact at least two of them have said only that they don't recall it -- and one of them told a reporter that she believes Dr. Blasey."
Dana Milbank wrote,
"Brett M. Kavanaugh proved himself unfit to serve on the Supreme Court.

It has little to do with his treatment of women.

Kavanaugh's freshman-year roommate at Yale had told the New Yorker that the future Supreme Court nominee could become "aggressive "and "belligerent" when drunk. But, as millions have now seen with their own eyes, he is aggressive and belligerent when stone-cold sober."

Kavenaugh's treatment of Senator Amy Klobuchar, snapping at her when she asked about whether he'd ever blacked out after drinking, demonstrated the nasty, aggressive behavior that Dr. Ford had reported. He couldn't, even sober, hold back from such vile behavior.

The final result of this may not give Dr. Ford justice, but it marks the beginning of the end for the Republican party. Of course such a claim could be proven wrong if the Democratic leadership continues on the misguided path the DNC and party insiders have led. The Democrats have an opportunity to make great gains, But they will fail if they continue their neoliberal, corporatist leanings.
