However you divide art-time, every period has its masters and its mediocre but creative talents (as well as its copiers).  K.H. Hodicke fits in neither of the first two categories, but his talents seem to me to be almost as remarkable as those of the masters who emerged in Europe and America over the last six decades.  And what is Hodicke’s talent?  Simply put, a remarkable ability to paint very, very good pictures which are reminiscent of (at least) six masters who emerged over the last 50 years.

There follow two of Hodicke’s paintings from the 1960’s; and one each from the decades of the 1970’s, the 1980’s, the 1990’s, and the 2000’s.  Look at them and see if you can also see the work of a master working in each decade.  Then tell us your masters, in a comment.
