What a trite thing happiness is when photographed.

We become the little eye in the sky above;

Spend long moments looking at someone else's Love.

To give that away would be criminally daft.

It's a warm, oceanic feeling; nary a shark!

The kids never having seen mother so happy --

so that's the guy they whisper about, our pappy,

behind our backs at school. "Hey, condom leaks," they snark.

.

I dunno. These bird's eye views of a fading life,

memories become memes, gifs that keep on giffing,

luffing, farther and farther away, soul-riffing

at the smiles on the faces of others. Some wife!

.

Whether prelude or epilogue, Julian's free,

But who's the cameraman, Harold Holt up a tree?

#####

*Harold Holt was the 17th Australian Prime Minister. On December 17, 1967 he went for a swim in the sea and never re-emerged. Some said the CIA did it; some the Chinese. The Australians yawned and named a swimming center after him.
