I'll keep this short. There's a simple measure of whether the Democratic congress is helping Americans or the insurance industry-- the rising and falling of Insurance stocks.
If they go up, then we've been screwed. If they drop, the Democrats are doing more to help Americans than the lobbyists they are in bed with. I was going to say "lobbyists they are besieged by." But "besieged" suggests that the legislators are facing the lobbyist unwillingly or at least, unintentionally.
The evidence is clear. The lobbyists have, so far, won.
Today, on the news channels, most of the coverage seems to be of Democratic senators, doing as was expected-- selling how wonderful the bill is, avoiding questions on why the health insurer stocks have soared to record highs.
Look at health insurance stocks, Pharma stocks, medical supplier stocks. Believe me, they're up.
There's still time in conference committee to do SOME good. We should have been tracking the health insurer stocks daily during the run-up to this legislation. Now, it may be too late, but every legislator should be asked why the hell the stocks have gone up so high and challenged that if they'd done their job the reverse would have happened.
Ask your legislator. And don't buy the pollyana sell-job B.S. that there's wonderful stuff in the bill for consumers. The proof is in the stock prices.
