Jeremy Scahill Interviews Noam Chomsky on the State of the Empire
The first time I heard this excellent interview (please listen and read here ), I didn't realize there was a written transcription of it. But the second time I listened to the interview, I read the words as they were being spoken, which is an ideal way to integrate the cognitive and the affective, the mind and the heart. Listening with earplugs also greatly improved the sound quality of the podcast.
The interview of Noam Chomsky by Jeremy Scahill from theIntercept.com lasted almost 64 minutes. Chomsky was very eloquent and wise as usual. He expressed that current Democrats think that just getting rid of Trump will somehow return things back to normal. But Trump is no different from almost all of our other presidents and past and present lawmakers who have spent enormous amounts of money on the military.
Jeremy Scahill expressed that American dissident Noam Chomsky speaks all over the world, but he is almost never given an opportunity to speak in the American mainstream media because his message is not what they want to promote.
Scahill was also very articulate and asked good questions during the interview. For example, he mentioned that the Left is still divided over Syrian President Bashar al Assad. Chomsky considers Assad a war criminal, but in this particular interview he does not give verifiable reasons why that is so. The same goes for Putin who is quite popular in Russia. Chomsky said he would not enjoy having dinner with Putin, but he does not elaborate the reasons why in this particular interview.
Assad, the President of Syria, is trying to rid his country of terrorists who have been assisted by the United States simply because Assad is a threat to the United States Empire. Chomsky expressed that the U.S. provided missiles to these anti-Assad terrorists so that they could defeat Assad. Russia, who is an ally of Syria, most likely for geopolitical reasons, then used its air power to defeat these anti-Assad terrorists, who have now been isolated and pushed into one city of Syria called Idlib.
Now, for better or worse, depending on your opinion of Assad, Assad has almost won the war against terrorists in his country. Chomsky provides many details about Syria and Yemen that most people have never considered or known about.
Chomsky mentioned how Trump stopped honoring the Iran agreement, but the most egregious and frightening thing Trump has done so far according to Chomsky is Trump's unwillingness to implement the Paris Accord, considering current, very serious environmental issues. Chomsky also rightly praised Trump for not [yet] interfering in the planned reunion of North and South Korea.
But what I will probably never understand about Chomsky is why he has seemingly downplayed the terrorist cover-up of 9/11, when David Ray Griffin's excellent books make a very strong case that 9/11 was a false flag operation orchestrated by forces in our government.
For a meetup.com study group in Brandon, Florida, I have recently ordered Griffin's 2017 book Bush and Cheney: How They Ruined America and the World. His latest book in 2018 The American Trajectory: Divine or Demonic? has been praised by Paul Craig Roberts in an article entitled "America's False History."(Article changed on October 4, 2018 at 18:12)
