I Am An American

I'm not a Democrat, a Republican, a Conservative or a Liberal. I'm proud to say, I am an American. I served my country during Vietnam, I support unlimited medical help for returning soldiers, I support free enterprise and I support less government regulations and interference with personal liberties. What does that make me, odd man out? It would appear so, given the present political situation in our country.

I have listened, watched and read the debates between the two presumed candidates for President in November and I was appalled, not one of them "" not one ""ever declared themselves an American, just a party member. I guess I was wrong in assuming that the candidate for President had to be a natural born American; at least it says so in the Constitution, which I read frequently just to see how much of it is violated.

I don't support Barack Obama because he strikes me as a snake oil salesman, willing to do or say anything for a vote. He makes great promises but offers nothing in way of substance. He objects to the media, and the McCain camp, grilling his wife. She's on the campaign trail stumping for him, she's fair game in my opinion, otherwise, stay home and out of the cameras. She hasn't declared herself an American but has said she's ashamed of America, But they seem to like the money they've made here.

I don't support John McCain, fellow Vietnam vet that he is, because he comes across as The Godfather, "I'll make you a deal you can't refuse."- Have I got a news flash for you, John McCain, yes I can. He has brought up his POW status but not once has he stood up and said, "I'm an American first."- Nope, with him, it's the political party, the backroom deals, lobbyists dogging him with loads of money, corporate America seeing him a continuation of business as usual and all his party buddies he owes favors to. Obama, to his credit, doesn't have that baggage yet but will.

No, America, I don't see any change on the horizon, any hope at all. All I see is political candidates willing to lie to our faces for a vote. Stand up America and be counted as an American. I am.

I am neither Republican nor Democrat. I consider myself above all to be an American, above political parties in thinking and in my desire to see this country return to its former greatness. I therefore look at all issues with a critical eye, toss (more...)
