I AM...a corporate human-being. This concept is what drives the political wheel. You think your voice matters when all you have in your bank account is a couple thousand dollars and a voice. The corporate human being has a voice now. The corporate human being has a couple billion in its bank account. Don't get me wrong -- I believe everyone should have a voice in determining how our country is run. However, these days, you may have voice, but you are sitting at the kids table. You may make a ruckus every once in a while, but the adults just tell you to quiet down while the grown-ups are talking. There may even be a brave one amongst the kids' table, i.e. Martin Luther King or Edward Snowden, who the adults hear, pretend to listen to, and then go back to doing "adult" things. This is our government"the adult table.
I want to sit at the adult table. I am tired of being treated like a kid. I want my voice to be heard and I want your voice to be heard. Loopholes in laws are found everyday - and then exploited. Trust me, this is what I do for a living as a lawyer. We exploit the loopholes for our benefit until it is so egregious that the kids' table needs some extra dessert to quiet down or the adult table isn't happy with the troublemakers and makes a new rule. A loophole was found in Citizen United v. F.E.C., where corporations were granted the power to donate unlimited funds to these Super PACs to control our government. They bought there way into the adult table. As a result, they are now dictating what laws are. Your officials who you elected to sit at the adult table are nothing more than cyborgs controlled by the money. No one expects more from them -- they are politicians after all. This has become common acceptance of what goes on in Washington. And you can't really blame them because it is Darwin's law -- survival of the fittest. Politicians want to survive, they want to remain politicians, and this is what is required of them.
However, we can blame someone, after all, we are Americans and there is always a scapegoat. We blame ourselves -- the kids table. We allow for this atrocity to move forward because of the mentality of -- "what can I do??" or "It doesn't effect me, so why should I get involved?" The Supreme Court made the decision, the lawyers made the arguments, and the corporations paid the bill. That is what they do after all -- they pay the bill. The bill the corporate human being pays for is the bill our politicians pass into law now. This is all predicated on the First Amendment Right - and I can't think of one case that says a corporation is a human being. In fact, I can find numerous tax authorities that suggest otherwise. So then, why are these corporations entitled to our First Amendment Right -- and how does the way they spend their money affect THEIR voice -- other than they their only voice equates to $$$$. Welcome to the world of the corporate human-being, where your rights are their rights. They are no longer an entity, but a living, breathing, articulating being, with a "board" of voices dictating how the corporate human being's voice is heard.
