It usually takes nine months to birth a baby and it is interesting that the word 'hypocrisy' is nine letters in length. President Obama is about to cave in to the hypocritical whims of the anti-birth control factions, i.e. the Catholic Church and religious organizations. "Faced with increasing pressure from religious groups and Catholic lawmakers in both parties over the new federal requirement for birth control coverage, the Obama administration is planning to announce an "accommodation" on Friday aimed at allaying some of the concerns of faith-driven employers."
The control of a woman's body by men -- and some women, goes far back into history. In my research of the history of women, few women became leaders or rulers. Could it be that it has been instilled in men that they must control women? I have also noted that there are in this country women who are in leadership roles, yet they deny other women the rights to control their own bodies. That is one aspect of hypocrisy.
Recently in Afghanistan a woman was murdered by her husband because she gave birth to a girl. One only has to see how the Muslim religion has condoned the murder of girls and women by family members. Why? That is a question that could have multiple answers.
To those 'do-gooders' here in the U.S., have you ever thought that some of those births of children into families who drank, fought, criticized, could have been prevented by birth control? Today the number of children who are abused, mis-treated and killed is rising. This is a travesty. Yet, those of the religious sector and Catholic lawmakers want to control women by not allowing birth control and abortions. Shame on you!
What if some parents received a letter from a son who was in the military serving in either Iraq or Afghanistan after they received notice that the son had been killed. Perhaps the following is a letter that could have been written by the son before he was killed and only to be mailed to the family after his death.
"Dear Mom and Dad, When you receive this letter, I will be dead and I will be happier dead than alive. Why? I remember my childhood and hearing my mom bragging that she didn't have an abortion. I also remember the whippings and beatings I got. I remember the day when I wet my pants and I was locked in the closet the rest of the day and the night. I remember I was always criticized and beaten for the least little thing. In your eyes, I was always wrong and the beatings with Dad's belt were at times unbearable. I carried the scars to my grave. My life with you was hell. In your eyes I could do nothing right. I remember the two of you getting drunk and then going to church as pious people. Woe be unto you hypocrites! The people of the town thought you were highly respected people. Little did they know what went on in our house. I remember you were so proud when I signed up to join the Army and bragged to people about how wonderful it was to have a son serving his country. For what? What I have seen over here is bad. We murder people! And then we laugh about it. I've had enough and now I want out of here.
With no love, Your son."
Is the purpose of not allowing women to have birth control or abortions is to have children grow up and be fodder so they can perpetuate wars? This is something to think about.
I remember in the 1970's when there was a big push to have the Equal Rights Amendment for women to become a reality. Today, it needs only three states to make it be a reality. Unfortunately, the religious faction fought against it. I remember one woman who was the darling of the Republican Party and she fought against the Amendment. Phyllis Schlafly was married to a wealthy man and they had six children. I have often wondered about the family life since she was busy with her radio broadcasts, the mobilization and organization of churches and local communities, along with television interviews and her monthly newsletter. I do not think she did these activities for free and yet she would deny other women their rights. Now that is hypocrisy!
It is hypocritical to refuse women the right to birth control and abortions and then condone wars. "Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' (women's) houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation." Matthew 23:14, King James Version. Yes, hypocrisy is a nine-letter word. Another nine-letter word is pregnancy.
