How Horses Teach Us To Be Thankful

In our device addicted, continuously driven-to-perform lives, there is some incredible wisdom that can be gained from a relationship humans had dating to over 5,500 years ago. With horses; that is right, Horses! For thousands of years, we have ridden these magnificent animals. And, they have taken us where we needed to go. Why, through the horse/human connection, they have shaped civilizations! Whether driving them or riding them, they have allowed our world to expand. Today, we may still ride and drive them, but they offer us SO MUCH MORE! With Equine Facilitated Learning, horses take us to new heights, not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually as well! Today, we can sit and be with them, as they take us to places of undiscovered interior horizons... places of stillness, gratitude, and thankfulness. Just in time for Thanksgiving, here are other ways horses aid us in being thankful:

-Horses have an innate ability to accept what is, all the time.

Wonderful models for us, to not resist and accept what is happening in our lives. Not only accept, but to bring us to a place of gratitude for all the blessings in our lives. For example, watch them as they deal with flies in the summer. They swat, they roll, they shake them off. They respond to what has to be done, and then they move on. They do not dwell in the past.

-Horses are fully present and live in the moment, one moment at a time. They encourage us to slow down, stop, and notice. Notice what good things are unfolding directly in front of us. That can draw us to being thankful.

-Horses do not get caught up in drama. If they are stressed, they feel the stress, and then do what they can to return to a state of satiation. They show us how we, too, can return to a state of calm, satisfaction and thankfulness.

-Horses are masters of E.I. Soft skills--listening, noticing, not reacting. When we become still, we too can enlarge upon those necessary skills. We can increase our Emotional Intelligence quotient.

-Just their presence can bring us to a state of being thankful. They are massively strong and beautiful creations.

You, too, are a beautiful creation!

Every thing your eyes alight on can bring you to a state of gratitude and thankfulness.

Horses help show us the way!
