The biggest and most seemingly insurmountable problem for us who are working for Bernie is the pledged-to-Hillary Super delegates, but after very careful consideration, I have come up with what might be a real solution that would mitigate the usurping unfairness of this oligarchical imbroglio!
Much of this primary struggle is going to boil down to some strong presence on the EDITORIAL PAGES OF AMERICA. We need to give newspaper editorial page editors a reason why THEY should endorse Sanders, not just why we are doing so!
I know from extensive personal experience during the 2008 Obama election campaign that a huge preponderance of editorial page editors endorsed Obama. At the end of the campaign, I picked the best 38 out of 600 of them for one stellar issue of my own paper, the New Mexico Sun News. We published it ten days before the election with the clearly premature front page headline, OBAMA WINS! All of the media went bonkers, the coverage was everywhere in the USA, and we were the lead story on CNN for about 18 hours!
The Editorial Editors who endorse candidates were in turn influenced to do so earlier by the hundreds of thousands of people who wrote in that they wanted him, not the Republican.
There is a giant list of papers from every state available by googling followed by the state's name. It helps to call the editor or opinions editor in advance if it is a long one, but frankly, at this point, short ones would be far better, 150-300 words, generally, and it still helps your chance of getting published by calling in advance.
I have been counseling this strategy to many groups for Bernie and to individuals who like to write for the past month, and I am seeing some great results. The best approach right now is not just to say why you support him, but give each newspaper editorial page editor reasons why that paper should also be endorsing Bernie and carrying alternative to the mainstream crowning of Hillary like we were in the last few minutes of the 4th down in a football game.
This BATTLE FOR THE EDITORIAL PAGES OF AMERICA could very well win this phase of the primary, and will bring out the readers in our American voters to support and campaign heavily for Bernie long before they pull the lever in the voting booth. This would tip the scales for him in the remaining states, and if your state has voted, that is all the more reason to concentrate on remaining states.
If the battle turns into the will of the people against the vested interests and "pledged obligations" of the Super delegates, it could get really ugly, and I can't begin to surmise who would win...
If anyone has any questions, or wants to send me their draft of their letter to the editor, please do so, and please make a point of publishing them at oped news as well as on Facebook and any other instantaneous media! If you are asked to sign a petition to the Super delegates to switch to Bernie, please do that also!
