The best contemporary art is always a challenge.    Over-simply stated, the best combines the new and the old and when done by the most talented contemporary artists, it may combine the new and the old in more than one dimension in terms of subject matter.   I've published so many OEN articles with David Maisel's photography from Artnet's Artist Works Catalogs, I won't even try to give you their addresses.   Some are environmentalist, some nuclear testing protest, some aerial, and some are abstract; but the ones below are very different from those I've published before and they are the most recent at Artnet's AWC.

With these recent works, Maisel has combined his personal vision with anthropology and the eerie shadow-images of bio-medical representation.  All the images are courtesy of David Maisel and Artnet's Artist Works Catalogs.   See here.

Take time and see if you can express in words your feelings about what these photographs depict.   The photos are in alphabetical order by the titles the artist gave them at Artnet's AWC.

Enjoy the genius of David Maisel.

I have a law degree (Stanford, 66') but have never practiced. Instead, from 1967 through 1977, I tried to contribute to the revolution in America. As unsuccessful as everyone else over that decade, in 1978 I went to work for the U.S. Forest (more...)
