Hillary is losing ground at an accelerated pace because she just doesn't get it. She is tone deaf and doesn't understand just how bad the song she is singing sounds. Her supporters, like her, don't get that she is not going to cruise into the White House because she has a vagina. (I have been hearing this from women, so I will be an equal opportunity user of the word.) Both Hillary and her supporters are treating young women with sexism and contemptuous disrespect, telling them they are naive, foolish, stupid or supporting Bernie for shallow reasons.
Politico is reporting that Hillary and Bill are looking at replacing some staff:
"The Clintons - stung by her narrow victory in Iowa and the overwhelming support under-50 voters - had been planning to reassess staffing at the campaign's Brooklyn headquarters after the first four primaries, but they have become increasingly caustic in their criticism of aides and demanded the reassessment sooner, one source told POLITICO.
"The Clintons are not happy, and have been letting all of us know that," said a Democratic official who speaks regularly to both. "The idea is that we need a more forward-looking message, for the primary - but also for the general election too ... There's no sense of panic, but there is an urgency to fix these problems right now."
They're thinking about "a more forward-looking message." That would be a complete 180 degree reversal of message from their conservative, pragmatism message, which they've used to attack Bernie Sanders, irresponsible, wild-eyes, naive enthusiasm.
The Politico article refers to "fix these problems right now." They problem is Hillary's core message. The idea that by firing and replacing some people-- probably strategists and writers-- she can fix the problems is screaming evidence that Hillary doesn't understand that the problem is people see her as not having a core belief system, not having a moral compass-- she does not have an identity that people can feel can be trusted and predicted. She is a chameleon who changes her colors to match Bernie Sanders, to reflect the latest polls.
People have good reasons not to trust most politicians. They have very good reason not to trust mainstream media and the anchors who are serving the establishment-- the Democrat establishment, the corporate establishment.
The different manifestation are freaking out, including inside the White House, that Hillary is destroying her campaign, and set up her campaign for failure with her acceptance of big money from big banksters, like Goldman Sachs.
Shrieking Hillary advocates, like Claire McCaskill, Bill Clinton, Chris Matthews are saying really nasty stuff about Bernie and the smart young people and the undecideds are seeing how disingenuous, how deceptive and most of all, how DESPERATE they are, and they are helping Sanders. They are helping Sanders because they don't get it that Hillary's moving target message is very wrong and because it is so changeable, not trusted.
Hillary, with her negative, pragmatism over change message is offering the opposite of hope. She is offering snail-like incrementalism. Democrats have not changed America that way. They have been bold and strong and determined.
Even if Hillary does another chameleon shift to something more positive, it will be too little too late.
A side note: a lot of pollsters are only using land-lines for their polling. This produces profoundly inaccurate results favoring older people, excluding people under 35, many of whom do not own or use land-lines. It's like the old story of searching for the lost key under the street lamp because the light is better there. Land-line polls cost a lot less to do. But they are highly inaccurate, off as much as 20%. That works to Hillary's advantage if she's trying to sell herself as still holding a strong lead. When you see a huge lead for Hillary, the first question to ask is, did they call mobile phones. If they didn't the poll is pretty much bogus-- run to sell a misleading collection of results.
