The original Mothers' Day came about

As a response of women to the horrors of the Civil War

And the Franco-Prussian War, master-minded

By Julia Ward Howe whose global vision was of a world

In which women everywhere would have an equal say

In how the world was governed

And whether wars would be fought at all.

In her day women were left out of power-sharing

Not because they were thought of as inferior

But because men were afraid

That if women were allowed to govern

They wouldn't allow men to keep playing with fire

And getting away with murder.
